Social Skills Groups

ACT offers a variety of social skills group services designed to help autistic individuals build social confidence and strengthen meaningful relationships.  We prioritize diversity and inclusivity in our programs, ensuring that all participants feel welcome, accepted, and valued for who they are.

We understand that each participant is unique and strive to create an environment that is not only fun and engaging but tailored to their needs, interests, and preferences. Our approach to treatment is grounded in ABA emphasizing the principles of positive reinforcement and assent.  We provide opportunities to practice skills which include the individual interests of each participant and gain active participation and assent in the learning process. We believe that building social skills in a supportive and engaging environment can be transformative, and we are dedicated to helping each participant reach their personal goals and full potential.

Process:

Our group formation process is personalized to ensure that each participant is matched with peers with similar interests and characteristics, allowing them to build meaningful relationships and connections.  Group services are run by our experienced team of ABA therapists and overseen by BCBAs, ensuring a commitment to providing the highest quality care and evidence-based techniques to help each participant develop the social skills they need to thrive in their daily lives.

Our programs are designed to provide participants with the tools they need to navigate social situations with confidence, including skills such as:

  • Developing  play skills emphasizing both self and joint engagement in various themes and activities
  • Engaging in  imitation and reciprocity with peers
  • Building functional and foundational skills for future social and play skills
  • Making friends and improving personal relationships
  • Learning how to participate in reciprocal conversation and collaborative play
  • Improving social and emotional awareness
  • Accepting feedback/guidance from others
  • Utilizing coping skills
  • Building  emotional regulation, self-management, and advocacy
  • Developing deeper social awareness
  • Learning more nuanced communication skills
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships
  • Engaging in responsible decision-making

Our groups are better because we work together.  We regularly check in with participants and their families to ensure that they are comfortable with the services they are receiving and that their goals and needs are being met.  We work collaboratively to make any necessary adjustments to  treatment and the group experience to lay a strong foundation for success.
